Breast Biopsy Device

Created as a response to the problem of high-impact biopsies, and in particular breast biopsies: CAD created a human-powered shockless breast biopsy device for Cardinal Healthcare, a world-leader in diagnostic, procedural and theraputic medical devices.

Traditionally, biopsy or tissue-capture devices, while effective, create a jarring impact on the patient.  The shockless biopsy device CAD created is based-upon a motion-profile-controlled, torsion spring powered rotary drum mechanism, wherein the speed required for tissue capture is mitigated by a “soft-start” and “soft-landing” contained in the paths that wrap around the drum(s).

The motive force for the device is provided by the practitioner, making this device practical in the field, where reliable power is unavailable.
